Bhoj Sagar Catering - Velachery

In times of need

Well it was around 10ish in the nite and i was dyin hungry with nothin at home! i din think anyone wud delivery nething at that point of time, but Bhoj sagar did! I got some aloo paratas and a north indian gravy, delivered sooner than i cud imagine.

It is definitely a boon for singles in velachery area! About the food, no complains, tho i wudnt call it authentic, it had a more south indian flavor to it. The aloo parata was stuffed with the masala they give for the south indian poori masal in local restaurants. But it was good to eat when u hungry and jus need some good food and don give a damn bout authenticity!

The prices are very much affordable. Service as i mentioned is very good and even over fone u can feel the hospitality!

Ambiance - my home sweet home

Food - 3/5

Service - 4.5/5

Price - You could have a good dinner for around 100 bucks i guess

Kalinga Restaurant - Velachery

i suggest u first visit an andhra mess!

Wat a name! Wat a location! as you pass through velachery by-pass road you cant miss the Kalinga restaurant along with Kebab Court, the lighting and the newly constructed apt looks too inviting. An andhra speciality restaurant.. hmmm interesting ..seems like a must try.

Finally, i plan up a lunch jus for sake of tasting the cuisine of kalinga. The ambiance is great, spacious and bright. Service is ok, no complains. We ordered an andhra thali (95), paratta (25), masala vada pulusu (90) (got carried away by the name), pista milkshake (70) and lassi (40). The Jevarisi vadam served on the house was so tasty and crispy and went very well with the pappu podi and ghee provided. Period.

Nothin after this was edible. I mean not to the extent of swollowing beyond the first bite. The vada pulusu was jus tamarind water and yday's vada dipped in it. Really do the telugus eat this tangy? I expected spicy hot stuff, which actually was not there! This dish was like eating thick tamarind paste, they cudve atleast diluted it a bit for gods sake :( after losing appetite tasting this, we had to eat the parattas with the gongra and tomato chutney.. which i dint like either.. everything is sour and tangy including the curd. The thali was nothin specially just the usual meals, which was not yummy either.

Worst part was that the lassi was served hot. Note i didnt say it wasnt cold, it was actually hot! Ice cubes were added on request, with an explanation that was lame. The menu is too less for veggies, n m not entirely sure if this is how andhra's cuisine tastes, cos i ve ate in local andhra mess and the meals are mouth-watering there. The place is a bit expensive compared to its counterparts in velachery.

Ambiance - 5/5

Food - 1.5/5

Service 4/5

Price - a minimum 300 to 400 per couple

Will i ever go back? - not even if m dying hungry, anyway there is kebab court literally next door!

Vasanth Dhaba - Velachery

Worth a try

You will not believe how crowded this place is, u will have to wait atleast 15 minutes for a table. The few tables in front of vasanth super market might make you think that its just a fast food in front of the shop where ppl grab a bite wen they visit. But no! this place seems to be a centre for bachelors and northies in the area who miss dhaba food. Vasanth seems too south indian a name to be named for a dhaba tho, i guess its jus cos its in Vasanth apts!

The gr8 smell that grabs you into the place, even if u have to wait and the fast service by the few waiters there make it all worth, sitting in the open-air eating food from dirty tables. Now even dhabba express has dirty tables and plates/spoons, so i guess it has to be there to bring in the authentic dhaba atmosphere! The food is good and the starters viz chilli gobi, paneer pakoda, etc. are typical and tasty. The aloo parata is good too, lassi was not anything unique. The roti chawal plate is not worth it since its not the best place to eat rice. Try just the roti plate with 5 soft rotis, one dal and one aloo gravy, really filling. They also have fruit juices and chaat items.

The price is ok, cheap as expected. The service is good for such crowd, cud be faster with more wait staff. Its worth visiting if u dont want to go beyond velachery and don wanna spend on 'The Dhaba' either!

Ambiance - 2/5

Service - 3.5/5

Food - 3.5/5

Price - 150 bucks max a couple for a complete tummy fill

Will i ever go back? - Mayb wen m that side on work, and the smell makes me hungry!

Kumarakom - Velachery

Keralicious and more!

Great food Less expensive! A good place for the localites of Velachery to grab a quick and easy dinner while shopping in the so-many new outlets opened lately. Typical Kerala food. The appam is great. Try the egg fry and biryani and ofcourse the puttu and kadla curry or the stew. I prefer it with sugar tho! Yummy Yummy!

Dont miss the paratta that comes at 10 bucks, it's the softest i've known and i can eat a dozen of it! The place is definitely a delight for the fish eaters tho it does serve a variety to the veg/eggaterian tongues! Best thing about the restaurant is that it doesn't just serve kerala food but stuff like rotis, naan and the north indian gravies are awesome. I usually prefer only the specialities in a place but this one is an exception! I make sure to order some north indian items on the menu too. My only regret is that avial and some other mallu specialities are available only with the meal in lunch time and i mostly get to go only for dinner!

Service is very friendly and ambiance is pleasant too. The waiters do offer music to the ears quite literally. But some people say that its a CD player thats doin the work actually. I am not really sure about this. As for me, everything is yummy here and i jus love to hog and don really care bout nething else!

Ambiance - 4/5

Food - 4/5

Service - 4/5

Price - 200 to 300 for a couple for yummy tummy-filling food!

French Loaf - Velachery

French Loaf But Indian Butter

I was so excited when 'French Loaf' opened up in Velachery cos i've heard a lot about the one in Harrington road and badly wanted to try out, but cudnt due to the distance. The sandwich was not just another sandwich, it is different from what you would get in other cafes, more cos you get to choose what is in it. Its absolutely yummy to say the least, and i jus loved it, moreover its not as expensive as i thought it would be.

Well thats about it! i was so expecting to give an excellent review on this place when i walked in. The service let me down badly. The waiter acted cranky to be precise. Do i look like a 5-year old or like someone who's seeing sandwich for the first time in her life? No! that dint feed my ego well. He was so intrusive, I started wondering if he's gonna dig into my sandwich basket at some point. I got obviously furious that i lost my temper as well as my appetite.

The bakery looks nothing better than a McRennett or Cakes 'n' Bakes (except ofcourse its inside a brand-new contemporary building). Maybe i expected too much but 'French' reminds me of 'Sophistication' and definitely not localised ambiance/service. I guess that explains the less-expensive food. I cant comment on the pastries, since the waiter kept following us trying to over hear our conversation and so we had to go back to our table. It is definitely not a premium place and does not attract such crowd for the same reason. For once, I atleast expected the waiter to speak in English (if not French you know!)

Ambiance - 3.5/5

Food - 4/5

Service - 2/5

Price - Maybe a 300 for a couple

Will i go back? - I wanna try the Harrington road outlet for sure and have the sandwich again!

Parfait 3 - Velachery

One of a kind in Chennai

There are not many american breakfast places i know in Chennai, this place is a real surprise. But it is still small time in Velachery, it wud have been more successful in nungambakkam or besant nagar.

Eggs made to order (esp the sunny side up) are great and reminds you of the breakfast places like iHop or Waffle house in the US. But the ambiance is ofcourse not so, its a typical coffee day kinda indian atmosphere. Service is great. They got bakery stuff and pastries in addition. The variety of icecreams can be increased. The mango smoothie is a must try. The burger and sandwiches are good too. No complains. The best part is they do door delivery u jus need to give em a call! The rates are reasonable.

Ambiance - 4/5

Food - 4/5

Service - 4/5

Price - 300 to 350 per couple (if u order drinks too, psst non-alcoholic!)

Will i go back there? - All the time.. i cant think of another choice wen i miss Waffle House!
